Meet Christopher Miller, Licensed Acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon
Over a decade of experience in Alchemical Acupuncture and holistic healing.
I practice on the traditional lands of the Cowlitz, Clackamas, Atfalati, and the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. Healing comes from the Earth.
I’ve been practicing in Portland for over twelve years. I came to this work through my own illness, a severe tick-borne disease that the conventional system could not quite hold — and through the gradual discovery that healing, when it is done well, is not just recovery. It is a return to something more fully yourself.
Some people arrive to the office carrying pain that has a name. Others carry something harder to describe. A flatness. A sense of going through motions that used to mean something.
Alchemical Acupuncture works at both registers. The needles land in the body. What moves is larger than the body.
I've practiced in Portland for over a decade, trained in the lineage of J.R. Worsley through Lonny Jarrett and Lorie Eve Dechar. My work draws on Five Element theory, Medical Qigong, Chinese bodywork, and the I Ching. Sessions are ninety minutes. The pace is slow enough to actually listen.
Training & Credentials
Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Branches University. Clinical training in China at Zhejiang and Liaoning Chinese Medical Universities. Bachelor's in Biomedical Science, Colorado State University. Specialized training in Five Element and Alchemical Acupuncture with Lonny Jarrett and Lorie Eve Dechar.
Licensed Acupuncturist, Oregon. NCBAHM Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. Medical Qigong Practitioner, International Institute of Medical Qi Gong.
Outside the practice I garden with my wife and son, compose haiku.
I practice outside insurance systems. Not to limit access, but to expand what’s possible in a session.
Sliding Scale:
$125 Solidarity Rate - for those for whom care requires sacrifice.
$225 Sustaining Rate - for those with stable income.
$325 Supporting Rate - for those with means. Each Supporting session funds two scholarship spots monthly.
No income verification. No application. You choose honestly.

Chris takes time to navigate the whole person holistically through evaluating medical history, the emotional, the spiritual, and all the interweaving facets. Definitely recommend.

Christopher is a gifted, compassionate healer. His sessions are transformative and have helped me move through the world differently. I came in with some of the worst acute neck and shoulder pain I’ve ever experienced and left the session not only pain-free, but with a new experience of joyfully being in my body. Words do not do justice to the impact of his work.

Chris is a true gift to humanity. The healing & growth that I have had in his space has been incredible. From our very first meeting he did an excellent job of creating a safe & expansive space for me, and as a person who’s experienced a fair amount of trauma that is no small thing. Whether it’s in a chair across from him, or on his table, I always know I am in capable & trustworthy hands. Chris doesn’t just apply healing to you, but invites you to be part of the process & shares his wisdom & understanding freely so that you walk away feeling not only lighter, but also more empowered. Highly recommend for anyone!

Frequently Asked Questions about Acupuncture in Portland
-
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body with thin, sterile needles. This stimulation helps regulate your nervous system, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote your body's natural healing response. From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, acupuncture balances the flow of qi (energy) through your body's meridian pathways.
-
Acupuncture is effective for a wide range of conditions including chronic pain, headaches and migraines, stress and anxiety, depression, digestive issues, fertility concerns, menstrual irregularities, insomnia, and many others. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as an effective treatment for over 40 conditions.
-
Most patients find acupuncture very relaxing. The needles are much thinner than injection needles, and insertion typically feels like a small pinch or pressure. Many people fall asleep during treatment!
-
Treatment frequency depends on your condition and health goals. Acute conditions may improve quickly with just a few sessions, while chronic conditions typically require weekly treatments for 6-12 weeks, followed by maintenance visits. During your initial consultation, Christopher will discuss a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
-
Yes, acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed acupuncturist. Christopher Miller uses only sterile, single-use needles and follows all Oregon health department safety protocols. Serious side effects are extremely rare.
-
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive consultation where Christopher reviews your health history, current symptoms, and wellness goals. He'll examine your tongue and feel your pulse, which provide important diagnostic information in Chinese medicine. Your first acupuncture treatment typically lasts 60-90 minutes.
-
Absolutely! Acupuncture works well alongside conventional medical treatments, chiropractic care, massage therapy, and other healing modalities. Always inform all your healthcare providers about the treatments you're receiving.
