Meet Christopher Miller, Licensed Acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon

Christopher Miller acupuncturist in Miller Acupuncture clinic treatment room in NW 17th Avenue, Portland Oregon

Over a decade of experience in Alchemical Acupuncture and holistic healing.

I practice on the traditional lands of the Cowlitz, Clackamas, Atfalati, and the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. Healing comes from the Earth.

I’ve been practicing in Portland for over twelve years. I came to this work through my own illness, a severe tick-borne disease that the conventional system could not quite hold — and through the gradual discovery that healing, when it is done well, is not just recovery. It is a return to something more fully yourself.

Some people arrive to the office carrying pain that has a name. Others carry something harder to describe. A flatness. A sense of going through motions that used to mean something.

Alchemical Acupuncture works at both registers. The needles land in the body. What moves is larger than the body.

I've practiced in Portland for over a decade, trained in the lineage of J.R. Worsley through Lonny Jarrett and Lorie Eve Dechar. My work draws on Five Element theory, Medical Qigong, Chinese bodywork, and the I Ching. Sessions are ninety minutes. The pace is slow enough to actually listen.

Training & Credentials

Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Branches University. Clinical training in China at Zhejiang and Liaoning Chinese Medical Universities. Bachelor's in Biomedical Science, Colorado State University. Specialized training in Five Element and Alchemical Acupuncture with Lonny Jarrett and Lorie Eve Dechar.

Licensed Acupuncturist, Oregon. NCBAHM Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. Medical Qigong Practitioner, International Institute of Medical Qi Gong.

Outside the practice I garden with my wife and son, compose haiku.

I practice outside insurance systems. Not to limit access, but to expand what’s possible in a session.

Sliding Scale:
$125 Solidarity Rate - for those for whom care requires sacrifice.

$225 Sustaining Rate - for those with stable income.

$325 Supporting Rate - for those with means. Each Supporting session funds two scholarship spots monthly.

No income verification. No application. You choose honestly.

Looking for something outside the scope of what I offer? Here's who I trust.

Testimonials

  • Christopher is a gifted, compassionate healer. His sessions are transformative and have helped me move through the world differently. I came in with some of the worst acute neck and shoulder pain I’ve ever experienced and left the session not only pain-free, but with a new experience of joyfully being in my body. Words do not do justice to the impact of his work.

  • Chris is a true gift to humanity. The healing & growth that I have had in his space has been incredible. From our very first meeting he did an excellent job of creating a safe & expansive space for me, and as a person who’s experienced a fair amount of trauma that is no small thing. Whether it’s in a chair across from him, or on his table, I always know I am in capable & trustworthy hands. Chris doesn’t just apply healing to you, but invites you to be part of the process & shares his wisdom & understanding freely so that you walk away feeling not only lighter, but also more empowered. Highly recommend for anyone!

  • I met Chris initially through his meditation classes, which led to us doing | Ching readings together. Chris has a true gift for holding space for others. In our sessions I feel welcome to be and express my whole self, in all of the nuanced and conflicting way it shows up. Often when I don't have a clear understanding of a situation, relationship, or feeling I'm experiencing, these readings have led to lightbulb moments, a feeling of calm, clarity, resolve, relief, or understanding. For some reason they always give me exactly what I need in that moment. Thank you Chris!

  • I was referred to Chris through a close friend and initially sought his expertise in acupuncture to address muscle/tendon concerns with running. Having never had acupuncture but being an advocate for holistic care in veterinary medicine, I was open to his help. Little did I know that we were going to end up working on so many other layers of my energy and well-being together! I genuinely look forward to our time together and the wisdom he imparts and balance he brings to me every time. Grateful!

  • I never write reviews for anything, but Chris Miller deserves all the stars. He's kind and compassionate, but clear and direct. It's the best combination. His clinic is lovely and welcoming. More importantly, his gentle clarity is invaluable. I could continue to gush, but the most effective endorsement is this: Four years ago, I was in almost constant pain, suffering from seasonal allergies all year round, and thirty pounds heavier. I had tried acupuncture before, but wasn't fully convinced. I realized last week that it's been 18 months since I've taken a Zyrtec, and I am apparently a person that enjoys running now. It's really amazing what you can accomplish when you aren't constantly hurting. I'm so grateful for Chris's work and the gifts he offers to the world.

  • I can't begin to say how helpful Christopher's acupuncture session was. I was on the final leg of travels feeling too exhausted and directionless to enjoy the remainder of the trip. Christopher got me in the same day, read my pulses, and we had a interesting spiritual discussion about the findings. This level of diagnosis and feedback really sets him apart as knowledgeable, seasoned, and intuitive practitioner. The treatment itself restored my energy and I am eternally grateful that I could FULLY ENJOY the rest of my week.

Frequently Asked Questions about Acupuncture in Portland

  • Acupuncture works with patterns. Alchemical Acupuncture works with the person beneath the patterns — the constitutional nature, the elemental story the body has been telling for years. It draws on Five Element theory, the I Ching, Medical Qigong, Jungian and depth psychology, and the understanding that what ails you and what you're becoming are not separate questions. Sessions are ninety minutes because space allows for deep listening.

  • Yes. And if your goal is to simply resolve your knee, shoulder, or back pain, there are people better suited to that work, and I'm glad to point you toward them. What I'm interested in is the alchemical undercurrent of the pain. What is your pain asking you? What might it be protecting? If you're curious about that dimension, this is the right room.

  • I firmly believe that finances should never prevent anyone from seeking alchemical care. I'm willing to work with you.

Three rates. You choose the one that's honest for you. The Solidarity Rate ($125) is for those for whom care requires real sacrifice. The Sustaining Rate ($225) is for stable income. The Supporting Rate ($325) is for those with means. Each Supporting session funds two scholarship spots monthly. No verification. No application. You choose honestly.

  • I begin by listening. Actual conversation. What's present. What's been present for a long time. What brought you here, and what you haven't quite been able to say about it elsewhere. From there, treatment unfolds: acupuncture, bodywork, sometimes Medical Qigong or I Ching consultation, sometimes tea. You'll leave with something to sit with. Most people don't want to drive right away.

  • Yes, and I think it's often the right way to work. Alchemical Acupuncture sits well alongside somatic therapy, depth psychology, and integrative medicine. I communicate with other providers when patients want that, and I refer out regularly when someone needs something I'm not the right fit for. Healing rarely happens in one room.

    Trusted referrals.
